I finally finished FF6!  That's all the main Final Fantasies.  \o/  I even did all the extra stuff like Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine.  But you don't get anything from defeating the Omega Weapon!  Even the Soul Shrine gave you a stupid useless crown to sit in your inventory.  Whyyy?  Not even a cutscene?  Not even a line of dialogue, or a pretty anim?  HAVE THE ROOM COLLAPSE ON ITSELF?  /feels cheated.

In other news, my latest gaming love is Cave Story + on Steam.  It's an indie game made entirely by one guy but is incredibly polished despite that, and has a little bit of everything.  It kind of reminds me of Super Metroid, if Super Metroid were adorable and had rabbits and dogs and bizarre little attack cushions instead of floating brains and scary tentacle monsters.

In fact that was pretty much his whole rationale.  He wanted to play a 2D side-scrolling platforming RPG shooter that was also cute.  Luckily, a whole bunch of people shared his oddly specific tastes and it is marvellous.  (Can get quite difficult, though.)

Considering all of my wildest dreams have been coming true lately (Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright crossover?  Theatrhythm?  Super Smash Bros on the 3DS?  Meridian Child orchestrated?) I thought I might as well make a set list of video game songs that I would dearly love to hear in a live orchestra.  While I love just about every concert I go to, it does seem like a lot of the setlist is taken up by either repeats or a whole lot of shooters and RTS titles.

So as not to fill the whole thing up with Square offerings, I made myself a rule that it can't have been played live by an orchestra in Australia before, and to try and avoid games that already have a lot of playtime.  It also spawned a massive trawl through my soundtrack collection.  I've included a hell of a lot of youtube links if you're in the mood for some awesome music.

My gaming taste is pretty damn obvious, however.  XD  This is the list:

Katamari Damacy - Katamari On the Rocks
You're with me on this one, aren't you beanie_nup?  I acknowledge it might be hard to orchestrate, but I dearly want to see a choir grapple with this.  XD  You could compromise by doing We Love Katamari - King of Kings.  Heck, ANYTHING Katamari.

Tetris Theme A
Preferably this version from Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Star Fox medley - preferably the Main Theme and Star Wolf Theme
I can't understand why Star Fox music doesn't get more love.  It's so bold and brassy.

Kirby Theme - Fountain of Dreams version
Mario gets a lot of airtime at these concerts, but why no Kirby?

Donkey Kong Country Medley
Or Donkey Kong for that matter?

Professor Layton Theme
WE KNOW AN ORCHESTRAL THEME EXISTS NOW, THERE IS NO EXCUSE.

Phoenix Wright Court Suite
Hey, Japan had a whole concert dedicated to it, why can't we just have one suite?

Portal: I'm Still Alive / Portal 2: Reconstructing Science
I actually was lucky enough to hear Still Alive in Japan at Press!Start, but it was in Japanese.  :|  It was actually really hard to choose a track from Portal 2, but Reconstructing Science is probably the most famous one, even if I sort of want Your Precious Moon or I AM NOT A MORON instead.  Oh man, 1:30 of the latter is positively chilling.  The exact moment when you realise something's wrong...

Crisis Core: Price of Freedom
This has become one of my favourite FF-soundtrack pieces of all time and still chokes me up on re-listen.

Guile's Theme from Street Fighter
Because Guile's Theme goes with everything.  And I do mean everything.

Rainbow Road theme from Mario Kart
I know it's Mario, but it's the one Mario song that has desperately needed to make an appearance in concert and never has.  It's incredibly iconic.  Why are all the Mario Kart tunes overlooked?  Those games are huge.  Mario Kart DS was a system seller.

Mass Effect 3 - Leaving Earth
You could pick any of these, but I picked up the opening one by Clint Mansell because it has a unique sort of sound.  (And also because I am a huge fan of Clint Mansell.)

Persona 3: The Battle for Everyone's Souls
Chosen mostly because it far and away the most epic version of the Velvet Room Theme.

Pokemon Main Theme
I mean seriously, this is the biggest series ever, why haven't I heard this in concert yet?
Again, this game is HUGE and has beautiful music!

Dissidia: Duodecim Main Theme
Because it likely won't ever get included in Distant Worlds, but it's one of the best pieces of music to come out of the FF series.

FF2 Pandemonium
Because I can't resist including more Final Fantasy, this is one track I very badly want to turn up in either another game concert or Distant Worlds.

Journey - Apotheosis
Although honestly they could choose any damn track from it and it would be amazing.  A medley would blow my mind.  It also has the benefit being a slower pace and different style to change things up a bit.

...This has kind of made me want to play more Super Smash Bros Brawl.  I never did unlock everything....

So what do you think?  Does anyone have anything they would add to it?

I'm sure it's been done by someone somewhere - Video Games Live maybe, but that persists in visiting every single country EXCEPT Australia.

Shoot, I never realised Cave Story was on Steam! I was playing the original on my old, dead computer ages ago, but I had issues with the game crashing at certain points. Might get it, or the 3DS version that I heard was going to happen * A*

Also! Have you heard that Ghostlight is planning on bringing SMT: Devil Survivor 2 and Devil Survivor Overclocked to PAL?

/gonna totally listen to those links when my internet is less slow aaa

\o/ Get it! Cave Story + version has slightly nicer graphics! There's a 3D version on the Wii now too, but I don't see how that could possibly work as well. By all reports Cave Story + is still the best version anyway.

I HADN'T. IT IS ABOUT TIME. Devil Survivor 2! *A*

Here's the link! It's funny that this announcement happened after I was sad that play-asia ran out of Devil Survivor 2 xD

Ugh it's so hard not to spoil myself on the game in the meantime fhsdhfgshdf

YESSSSS for Katamari for ANY of their songs /o\ It'll be quite cracktastic at best!

Am also agreeing with Prof Layton/Phoenix Wright and all other games in existance really, even Monkey Island (pirate music!) or Shadow Hearts (granted their music is more techno) ;^;

Yesssss to Shadow Hearts! <3 Kenji Ito! I can't believe Eminence actually had him as a guest once and didn't play any music from that game. These are all beautiful~ *__* Grandia and Suikoden~!

Okami would be a good inclusion too! I was lucky enough to hear it at PressStart (Suikoden too) in Japan, so I forgot that it hasn't been played here yet. (Why so lucky with all the concerts Japan? ;A;)
