A quick poll!  I've probably asked this question in the past, but I once again am mulling over whether shorter chapters and quicker update times are better, or longer chapters less frequently updated. Of course we'd love to have the best of both worlds but I don't write that fast anymore.

Obviously the length of chapters can vary wildly, as some longer scenes simply refuse to be cleanly split, and other times the chapter ends best at an earlier scene, but there are occasions when I find myself faced with a series of longer chapters that could be split in half to shorter ones and can never quite decide which side of the fence to fall on. So here's a quick poll to abdicate responsibility to internet acquaintances and strangers!

Poll #1930712 Chapters and Updates

Which would you prefer?

4-5 page chapters posted twice a week
8(18.2%)
7-9 page chapters posted once a week
30(68.2%)
No preference
6(13.6%)

In other news, I've been plodding along at an okay rate on all of my WIPs, but I'll likely be posting the Junjou Romantica one soon since it was already quite far along and is thus on the homeward stretch. Would be nice to get it out of the way. I'm also despairing at it and so am eager to get it out of my hair so it won't bother me anymore and I can focus on other hopefully better fics.

In other other news, I've just started reading the Bloody Monday manga and it's surprisingly awesome. Am holding off on recommending until I see how it ends, but so far it's a solid hacker crime drama that is not totally obtuse about how computers work for once, and has had some pretty cool twists! I've been feeling a bit of a void in the awesome mind game genre since Code Geass ended and this has gone some way in slaking my thirst. (Whilst simultaneously making my hunger for it even worse).

Also I got sucked into Animal Crossing.  I'd been playing for all of two hours, just got my hands on my bug net, and a dragonfly appears next to me.  I netted it on reflex, and the game lost its shit - 'YOU DID IT! YOU CAUGHT A BANDED DRAGONFLY!'  Then last night I caught a scorpion and it didn't seem to care. I don't understand what's happening, but Zero Punctuation's review feels pretty accurate so far.  But I like that you can visit each other's towns with friend codes! I feel like a awesome massive cheat since rafira came by and dumped off a bunch of glorious fruit so now I have a veritable rainbow of an orchard happening! I've been pretty lucky so far in general, really. Anyone else on the flist playing?

Well I can't get the poll to work for me worth anything, but I'm one of those who prefers longer chapters when a fic updates. :B Makes me savor the fic more, especially when the fic doesn't update so often (as is the case for at least a couple fics I'm following rn that have HUGE chapters but don't update very often).

And I am also aboard the Animal Crossing train! Been playing about a month and a half now and just got T.I.Y. in my town~ I CAN BUY MUSIC EVERYDAY FUCK YES. Also weh, I am now jealous of your catching a scorpion bc mine either run before I can get my net out or sting me when I actually can it out. >: But yeah, 'tis lots of fun and I am hellbent on completing my museum and catalog now that I've finished upgrading my house. Cheers for your thoughts. Seems to be the trend! I don't usually do super-long chapters as it is so the difference isn't a big one but when I fall on the fence, looks like I may wind up leaning to that side. :) In terms of personal preference when reading I land somewhere in the middle - I like there to be some meat to an update, but the extreme too far in the other direction has put me off a couple of fics I might have otherwise stuck with. Hence, poll!

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT T.I.Y. IS I'M SUCH A NOOB. D: Kind of feel like I'm super late to the party but the game hasn't even been out that long!

Yeah, though I think the fics I'm thinking of have chaps that are roughly 2-3 times what your averages are, though they have less chapters I think. idk I'd have to go do the math and I am lazy. uvu Either way though, so long as the fic continues to be interesting and well written, I usually don't really care about length. :B

T.I.Y. is one of the shop upgrades for Timmy and Tommy's shop! Basically, buy lotsa stuff in order to unlock the upgrades, but in order to get from where I'm at to the last one, I need Gracie who I have no idea how I'm supposed to get her to arrive. :| At least she's a special character so I should see her soonish. :V just preferably before 5pm so I can order clothes for her challenges xD May as well check Nookipedia and see if I can't find anything. :B //shameless plug for fave AC wiki

And it's okay. I sometimes feel out of the loop every time I see someone who has a house with a really good HHA score or lots of medals. :B

.. can... can we trade info and visit each other? I very recently screwed up and had to restart my game, leaving me to rebuild everything. Q.Q Or is that something we'd have to be in the same room to do?

... come to think of it, is there even a way to trade that info?

For sure! There's an LAN/streetpass option, but there's also internet option too! You just need to exchange friend codes. Mine's 0602-7356-2927 (I'll need yours back for it to work). I tend to only play in short bursts but so far my habit is to check if anyone else's gates are open first, and if they're not, open mine up for visiting while I run around doing stuff. :)

And now the fun part, trying to find where that information is hidden on my 3DS. Wish me luck! I'll comment again when I find the dang info.

Found it. 5284 1584 9123

<3 I'm addicted! My villagers keep making comments about how I ought to take a rest. This could become a dangerous time sinkhole!

I think updating once a week is still considered really fast and consistent compared to the majority of fanfic writers and your updating/writing skills are a godsend to be honest. I do like longer chapters though so I can savor it more haha

Thanks, although it's mostly because I tend not to start posting a fic until it's 80% written, so my updating time is more dependent on editing than writing. I think the majority of fanfic writers tend to post as they go, which is why there are so many WIPs out there. If I posted every single fic I start I'd have a lot of unfinished/super slow updated fic too!
