Tennis! Tennis tennis tennis.

There was one very important thing I’d forgotten about the tennis season: the roller coaster of disappointment. This probably isn’t a problem for most people, but apparently I have the curious affliction for choosing the loser of every match – even the ones where I am unfamiliar with the players. It’s reaching the point where it is now defying probability and perhaps players should start paying me money to cheer for the other guy.

Then again, when I support Calleri over Tsonga, that's kind of setting myself up for a fall.  :3  Look, here's a bad picture of the very talented Tsonga.  I had crazy awesome seats to this match - right next to the corporate boxes.  Coca Cola didn't send anyone, so their seats were empty.  BAD COCA-COLA.  I'm going to support Pepsi from now on.

Learning my lesson, I went to the finals today with a player-agnostic approach, and it seemed to work much better. It probably helped that I wasn’t particularly familiar with either player, but I did secretly fangirl a little when Verdasco turned out to be left-handed and Stepanek was wearing purple and starting throwing around drop shots like they were going out of style. And It was the first match all tournament I’d seen that made it to the third set, and it was awesome.

Stepanek won, but Ferdasco was an incredibly gracious loser.  That trophy looked really heavy.

Despite the very cool final, overall the tournament dealt in a currency of disappointment. I’m still reeling at Novak Djokovic bombing in the first round. Tsonga crashed in the singles. Amelie Mauresmo fell out due to injuries. Nishikori made it a lot further than I thought he would, but alas… And the Guccione/Ball men’s doubles pair lost in the semi-finals yesterday. :( But that’s the risk you take when you buy tickets to any elimination tournament – it’s sort of like buying movie tickets when you’re not sure what movies will be playing, and you accidentally wind up watching a Rob Schneider flick. :P

Then Verdasco had to play in the men's doubles final immediately afterward, poor guy, and lost that too.  Strangely, despite the amount of tennis I watched this week, it mostly wound up being Verdasco and Tsonga I got to see play?  Oh sure, there were the women's matches too, but all of those were complete steam-rolls, and thus sort of boring to watch.  So no pictures.

Now I'm totally pumped for the Australian Open. And then afterwards the ATP tour will move offshore and I can breathe easy once more and just read the results online rather than become emotionally invested in matches that do not have the luxury of a script writer.

Lol. Verdasco and Stepanek. Wonder if they watch PoT...It's a sign. A TezuRyo sign. =D

I always end up rooting for the losing side too. =( Everytime I start watching a match with players I don't know, I root for the then-winning side. Then, like a jinx, they start losing. It's kinda depressing. T.T

YOU UNDERSTAND. ;___; Isn't it the very worst jinx ever?

I'll find TezRyo wherever I can get it. They hugged at the end, too. :P Well, Stepanek hugged Verdasco - he was the happy one. XD

Jaarko? He's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, currently No.6 on the ATP rankings. And sadly, no, I don't think I did see that match. That was the Wednesday one, right? :( Worst of luck!

I honestly don't know. .__. There wasn't even anybody who had a name that sounded like Jaarko (pronounced 'Jar-co', right?) in the men's single draw. The only players I recall wearing green shirts were Nishikori and Tsonga, though, so it's probably him. :P

BY THE WAY, I FIGURED OUT WHERE YOU GOT THE JAARKO FROM. It's actually Jarkko Nieminen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarkko_Nieminen) - he wasn't playing in Brisbane, but instead in another tournament in Adelaide that was on at the same time - Channel 7 was probably showing that instead. Either way, he's in the draw for the Open, so you can see him! ;)

also i think coke tastes better than pepsi due to the weird aftertaste you get from pepsi.

...just, you know. my two cents on the matter.

I agree, but Pepsi is also cheaper. Pepsi wins!
