Dusty Fans

Summer must be receding, because I turned off my ceiling fan for what must be the first time in months

You can tell which way the fan spins by the dust on it!  :P  Perhaps time for some cleaning.

Speaking of dusty fandoms, sorry, couldn't resist, here are some recs!

The only good Bokurano fanfic I've found so far:

Those Left Behind
A collection of short fics focusing on characters who are left behind and how they deal with the death of each pilot.

Based on the manga for the most part, woo!  \o/  Really well-written.

Also, thanks to Crisis Core, I've jumped feet-first back into the FFVII fandom.  It surprisingly hasn't changed much, but I found some new gems:

Reduced to Specimens
Based on what happened after the Nibelheim incident. Sephiroth is dead but there are two survivors. Hojo has found himself some new subjects. Centres mainly around Zack and Cloud.

If you ever wanted some more detail about those four years in the lab, this is the place to go.  Minor deviations from canon aside, it's spectacularly detailed, well-written, and vivid enough to make your skin crawl.  Given the subject matter, rather tortorous and angsty - steer clear if you have a weak stomach for that sort of thing.  It has single-handedly filled my craving for more detail about those all-so important years in the storyline.

Also, it's gen!  \o/  The shock!  So few good gen fics kicking around (though I'm hardly one to be pointing fingers).

Green Dreams
Cloud has suffered and asked for forgiveness, but Aeris knows she alone cannot give him it. He must find that forgiveness and peace where it began, back at SOLDIER. SephirothxCloud

One of my guilty pleasures in fandom are these 'going back in time' sorts of stories.  There are quite a few of these in the FFVII fandom; this is one of the better ones (if you know of some other good ones please do recommend them to me).  I'd grown nauseous of Sephiroth/Cloud - it is very easy to overdose on it, due to the popularity of the pairing and the subsequent glut of badfic to accompany it - but this one made me like it again.

Yay for long weekends!

<3 I'm glad I'm not the only one with a terrible weakness for that particular plot-bunny.
Apr. 10th, 2009 10:54 am (UTC)
It is too strong a weakness, sometimes. ;; (UN?)FORTUNATELY IT RARELY CROPS UP IN TENIPURI ENOUGH TO BE BUTCHERED HERE. :Db I believe yours is the only one I've read. *_*

I have clicked on Green Dreams even though I don't know much about FFVII and upon reading the first chapter was not able to let go of it. I think the majority yesterday was spent on reading that and I forgot about meeting my friend in the mall and she went to my house chucked her shoe in the window last night because she was so pissed off :| I wonder if I should give it back or not.

It was worth it, though. I hope the author updates soon. Thanks for reccing it in your post. I found a new pairing to ship like FedEx~ 8D

Re: omgthankjoo
I'm not sure if that's something you should be thanking me for, but glad you also liked it! :3 It's getting pretty exciting, can't wait to see how the exam goes~!

Keep the shoe, definitely. Or offer to sell it back to her at a ridiculous price.

Hi, just a lurker, but I really wanted to recommend Eir's Tomorrow if you haven't read it yet. Green Dreams and this fic are why I'm into FF7 right now...

Apr. 17th, 2009 10:12 am (UTC)
Awesome, thank you for the rec! I was in desperate need of good FFVII fics. ^__^
Apr. 18th, 2009 07:33 am (UTC)
No problem! Um, I usually don't comment or anything, but I love recommending fics to friends... So if you liked Eir's Tomorrow I totally have like, a bunch of other FF7 fics that I think are really good...
Apr. 18th, 2009 03:45 pm (UTC)
It was great! Took a little while to get going, but has me thoroughly hooked now. *___*

Throw any and all recs at me, I shall lap them up eagerly. The FFVII fandom is much too large to navigate carelessly.
Apr. 20th, 2009 12:26 am (UTC)
Haha, ok. So here it goes! I'm not sure exactly what you'd like, so I decided to stick to the ones that are pretty long with a good plot...

Zack/Cloud, basically a "what if Zack survived but Cloud didn't know"

same author, Zack/Cloud, Zack and Cloud join Shinra at the same time.

Cloud/Sephiroth, I'm just going to give the author's summary: Cloud participates in one of the odder aspects of the SOLDIER program. Instead of a story with a lemon in it, more of a lemon with a story in it. (there's a sort of sequel if you like this one, "The Scenic Route")

...I was going to add some nice wip ones too... But I realized that that's a lot already.. Just one last one, I think it's hilarious and kind of a nice dose of fun to counter all the serious fics I just listed:
Same author as Eir's Tomorrow, it's a wip but the last chapter ends on a pretty good point.

Anyhow! I hope you enjoy reading these :]
Apr. 20th, 2009 12:28 am (UTC)
Ugh! I just realized, I hope I haven't given you stuff that you've already read...!! If so please say so? I totally have newer ones.. These were just the completed ones that I found and liked... (I just got into this fandom this year so I honestly have no sense of what's recent unless it was posted like..this year.)
Apr. 20th, 2009 10:11 am (UTC)
Heee, I had read most of those actually, but I somehow missed 'Got Your Back', so that shall keep me busy~ Thank you!

You have proven to me that you have excellent taste! It's like an all-star list of favourites. *__*
Apr. 21st, 2009 08:05 am (UTC)
So they weren't a complete bust then! That's a relief... Ok then, here's take 2! Hopefully with newer stuff:

(or well, maybe I lied?) I bet you know this author already... But maybe there's stuff you haven't read so this is the archive: http://ciceqi.slashcity.com/FF.htm
The ones I really liked were the Loveless crossover, Mascot-verse, anthroverse... etc ahaha I liked most of them basically? (oh, but just in case, if you don't like Sephiroth/Zack/Cloud that's like 90% of these fics)

Cloud/Reno, a fun one-shot

Another author you probably know, but a couple of months ago they posted a Fruit's Basket/Kingdom Hearts (w/ ff7 characters!) crossover that's pretty funny: http://chibirisuchan.livejournal.com/tag/fruits+basket
They also wrote a dark-ish AU in response to this challenge: Cloud and Sephiroth, transformation of some kind
http://chibirisuchan.livejournal.com/56387.html (kind of Cloud/Sephiroth? I'm still waiting for part 3...)

I really like this one (but again! slow updates...), this is an AU where the author twists the events at the Nibelheim Reactor to create a whole new storyline. Eventually S/C/Z (warning for tentacle fic? it looks like a trend in this fandom XD;;)
In case that doesn't link to all the parts.. http://tir-synni.livejournal.com/tag/sxcxz

So here are the few ff.net WIPs that I think are really interesting... But update once in a blue moon:
The plot's kind of hard to explain, and I don't think I'll do it justice so: author summary! PreKingdom Hearts Born from alternative means, the relationship between Cloud and Sephiroth starts as last members of their race. They were meant to rule the planets, but something gets in the way and creates a severe rift between them.

This one's terrible, just one chapter and I'm already hooked... But there hasn't been an update in weeks! The premise is "what if Cloud couldn't go to Shinra..."

This one's completed, again a twist on what happened at Nibelheim: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4556979/1/Making_It_Work
Sephiroth/Cloud (but there's S/C/Z at the end)
The au sequel which takes place 3 years later (basically, if things hadn't gone well at the end of Making It Work) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4643462/1/Mad_World <- still wip

Oh, this one might not be your cup of tea because it's pretty dark (from what I can remember, it's been so long since it updated that I'm not sure I remember the story correctly...but I did favorite it so I thought I'd put it in here)
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4545123/1/Little_Bird author summary: Sephiroth is alive and has taken Cloud captive in the basement of the Shinra Mansion. The others desperately search for their friend and all must come to realize that not everyone is who they seem to be. Sephiroth/Cloud. Other side pairings.

If that's not enough, this is another author to check out on ff.net: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1388020/Amarissia There's a small series and some good one shots (if I remember correctly)

And that's it! I have a couple more but honestly I like the ones I've listed out the best.. Again, I hope you like them and that they're new to you! >_

Oh god, 'Unexpected Side Effects' has destroyed everything I ever thought I knew about tentacle fics. I am addicted, and damn it, there are far too many unfinished stories I am addicted to right now. I need to go re-read what is there and leave comments. LONG ONES.

I got hooked on Guide right away too, you weren't alone there. If only we knew French, we could read the rest already! The paaaaaain.

And ahahaha, the Reno/Cloud one is the most surreal and hilarious thing I've read in months, thanks for that one. <3 Reno.

I have indeed read Making it Work and Mad World, both spectacular pieces of fiction, though I read Mad World first before discovering the sort-of prequel. XD Ooops.

I think I've read a couple of stories from those other two authors you linked, but not all of them! Such a treasure trove of reading material you have presented me with. ^__^ My productivity for the week is quickly approaching zero. You have shot yourself in the foot, anon. I haven't written anything for days.
Apr. 23rd, 2009 12:56 am (UTC)
Ahahaha... You're right, I have. But, and it hurts me too to say this, you'll run out soon. I've been waiting weeks (months in some cases!) for updates, and then you'll have nothing left to do but write :] (Thank you, by the way, for writing these amazing tenipuri fics. When I found these they were like a nice, long drink after a really hot, dry day ;A;. It's so hard to find good, long tezuryo fic gen or otherwise.)
Anyhow! I am so glad you enjoyed these fics.
...I didn't know that Guide had a French version. Finally my four years of high school French will have a good use (thanks for the heads up XDD) As for Unexpected Side-Effects - !! I never thought I'd like tentacle!fic either, but this is definitely worth it and it's great that you feel the same way. Now you can join me in checking like, every other day for an update XDD.
Wow, this is long (and definitely the most I've ever commented on an lj before haha).
Ok, that's it for me... I'll go back to my creepy lurker-ish ways now, bye bye :]

Okay, I just found this thread totally by chance and I have to say, I'm blushing something fierce (for those who don't know/didn't pay attention, I'm Guide's author ^^).

This was even better than a review and I'm really thankful for your enthusiasm (and yeah, I'm horribly slow to update, sorry ;p )
