Alternate ending to Dune

Dust storms!  Last time I was in a dust storm must have been 2002, and that doesn't really count since that was spent cooped up in a miserably hot little room desperately wishing I could open a window.  This dust storm was much more exciting.  Photographic proof:

The folks in Sydney had it way worse though:

Off to have a shower now.  I smell like a cane farm after harvest.

Yeah, we had it pretty bad - it's a good thing you say you guys didn't. XD Was coughing & hacking for hours from all the dust in my lungs, my colleagues probably thought I had swine flu. And yeah, everything had a musty burnt smell the whole day :/

It looked apocalyptic when it was red, scary when it turned orange ... and just gross when it turned yellow :P

Gosh yes, it was maybe only half or a third as dense as you guys got it down there and I was having trouble breathing outside. Can't even imagine what it would be like for you! Take care out there!

Ha ha, around sunset it turned grey here, so it looked just like ordinary fog. :P Yellow! That's like... really bad 50's sci-fi toxic smoke? XD Has it cleared up yet?

Also, I think it's kind of epic that we can share a weather event half a continent away! XD

Ha ha, yes, I was worried about this too! Looks like it's cleared up more or less though (at least enough for flying).

Although by the sounds of it everything in Sydney may be covered in a thin layer of dirt while we're there. :P Unlucky timing!

Yea, lucky it's cleared up, now I just hope I won't cough too much from the dirt flying around... ^^;;

Speaking of which, shall we exchange numbers or something so that we can actually meet up?

Oho.

Uhm, stupid question probably is stupid, but are dust storms actually storms?

Hmm... dictionary.com says:

–noun 1. a disturbance of the normal condition of the atmosphere, manifesting itself by winds of unusual force or direction, often accompanied by rain, snow, hail, thunder, and lightning, or flying sand or dust.

So I guess so! \o/ (Had me worried about using incorrect vernacular there for a moment. ;))

...I though the first photo was real. Like a giant awesome building just looks sort of abstract and alienish. :D

I hear everyone has been cleaning the dust out. Did you end up going out in the storm?

If only it were real! XD

I did, first to get lunch, and then later walking to the train station and home. It was cool at first, until my eyes and throat started to hurt and I remembered why I don't like going outside in dust storms. XD
