I have hardly been posting at all this month! Part of this was due to work commitments, but it was also due to all these things:

Spent a lot of time at the start of the year down at the Gold Coast, and a little further south at Springbrook mountain.

This seemed fairly ominous.

The horizon there is actually the ocean - Byron Bay, the easternmost point of Australia!  The ridge in the middle is roughly where the border between New South Wales and Queensland falls.

Photos do the view no justice.  This was taken from the 'Best of All Lookouts' (that is in fact what the sign pointing to it said.)

This was just amazing.

Also, P-chan, I found us a new Ferris Wheel to kill.  Are we sure it's not Perth's old one?

2. Reading

Last weekend I hit up Lifeline's bookfest!  The spoils:

All that?  Cost $30 in total.  And I didn't even get any time to hit up the 20c section! Could have spent an entire day in there, easily. They need trolleys or something.

3. Having a lot of beverages.

Had this iced chocolate at some ridiculously fancy hotel on the Gold Coast (if the chandelier and glass ceiling weren't telling enough, they had live grand piano ambience going in the middle of the afternoon.)

Also drank lots and lots of tea. I had a friend visiting from Canada who's a bit of a tea fanatic so any tea place we passed inevitably got stopped at.  This was at a place hidden upstairs on a mezzanine in Chinatown. We even had a bonus demonstration of a tea ceremony, as they had a relative visiting to take part in the Lunar New Year celebrations.  (Which reminds me - Happy Lunar New Year everyone!)

4. Tennis!  Tennis tennis tennis.

In what has become tradition, I went to the men's finals for the Brisbane International a couple of weeks ago!

This was the order of play.

These guys, respectively.

It was a bit of a walkover, really, hardly even made it to deuce most of the time.  Still, I always enjoy watching the doubles as some of the angles and rallies can get kind of crazy.

And it didn't really matter if the play wasn't that memorable anyway, because I had strawberries and cream and ice-cream to eat.

In a plastic glass.  It was kind of amazing, and is it weird that after going to the tennis this was the highlight?  Both the strawberries and cream were so so fresh though.  Whoever thought up that food stand is a genius.

The final was marginally more interesting, though due to an injury on Dolgopolov's part it too was something of a straight-sets walkover.  First final Radek Stepanek didn't make! Kind of sad, he always put up a really good fight.

That's Alexandr Dolgopolov there.

And just to make things confusing, hovering Andy Murray was wearing a red shirt too.

Murray won!  For all that it wasn't the most entertaining of matches, it was still rather nice to see Andy Murray win something and  remind us that he's still World No. 4, lack of Grand Slam aside.

Speaking of Grand Slams, have also been watching the Australian Open.  Both Tomic and Hewitt have done much better than expected, though Tomic predictably fell to Federer yay! and Hewitt doesn't have much chance against Djokovic tonight.  Should be a good match though, and I might root for Hewitt simply because he probably doesn't have much longer left on the tour.  It's amazing he's still walking, really.

There's been some really good tennis so far this year though! And I've been lucky enough to be able to watch a lot of it.  Kei Nishikori just took out Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in five sets this afternoon, it was awesome.

5. Playing Kingdom Rush

Tower defense.   I haven't played the genre in ages, but this one is awesome.  And best of all, it's free to play!  I kind of can't believe it's free, really.  (Well, 'freemium', but I haven't had any urges to buy bonus content... yet.)

I'll get to some more of those giftfics soon, too... hopefully after the local tennis season wraps up.  How's everybody else been doing?

ooh, will check out the game, and the tea looks lovely, as do the strawberries and ice-cream, it's rare to see that sold at a sports game =D

It seemed kind of upper class! But considering the typically older crowd the tennis attracts, it's a rather clever and classy choice. And so delicious.

I haven't been able to watch the Open this year, which has been a bummer! Has it been awesome?

Very awesome. Top five men's seeds are all into the quarters, so it's bound to get even better. The women's side of things is a bit of weird mess though, upsets all over the place!

Damn, I need to be watching this!

Doglopolov has the weirdest freaking backhand; I wish I could have watched his match, if only for that. He hits a one-hander, but then does this... twist thing at the end (I think he's aiming to get heavy under-spin). It's freaking weird.

You must! Quarter-finals have just started so there's still time to see plenty of awesome matches.

Dolgopolov didn't actually do much in the way of slicing in the Bris International Final - he was going for quick, short points, presumably because of his injury. He actually apologised afterwards for playing boring tennis because of it. But I got to watch his match against Tomic in the Open and yeah, it was pretty cool! Weird backhands all over the place. I wonder if the odd movement is a bit of a feint - is it going to be a slice or is it a flat ball?

Ooh sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy! That's good, it all sounds fun.

Oh man, the dessert. I'm practically salivating looking at your photo. *__*

Man those scenic photos are phenomenal. Though after seeing all that food I feel hungry, gah. I'm really digging the tea photo.

Not doing too badly~ HAPPY NEW LUNAR YEAR! x3

Thanks, though I need to drag a real photographer up there, because the photos don't even come close to capturing some of the views.

Good to hear. Thanks!

Oho, I recognize the two books from The Series of Unfortunate Events. ;D It will not be a pleasant ride, but it's still a good read! I got Baker's Boy as well, but I've yet to finish it. Lack of time to read these days. ;_;

Good to see you're enjoying life atm. Hope you'll love ze books (though where, WHERE on earth do you get such a great deal in Oz!?)~ :3
