Now on Ao3

Little House In the Woods was kind enough to offer me an Ao3 invite, so, as is the nature of the universe, I am now on Ao3!  Hooray! Because I'm already so bad at posting things to FFnet, why not compound the issue with another archive?  XD

That said, I've been hearing a lot of great things about Archive of Our Own and have to say on initial perusal, liking their tagging system. FF.net has improved a lot in the ten years or so since I signed up (*feels old*) but it's quite the pain to search for, say, time travel stories with specific characters in them without resorting to often outdated C2's.  (Of course, tags are only as reliable as the people who tag them, but every bit of search criteria helps when wading through the massive sea of fanfiction online.)

Only the one story from the backlog posted right now ('Allure of Honey', since it was a reasonably short one-shot and I'm still trying to figure out a way to avoid massive formatting carnage.  Damn MSWord.)  I'll almost certainly be putting up 'The Fifth Act', 'Dear Kunsel', 'Falling to the Darkside' and 'A Traditional Ninja Romance', but the prospect of porting over ten years worth of fic is a little daunting, so I thought I'd ask if there are any other stories people specificially want to see on there?  I kind of want to cherry pick the better ones, much like how I already cherry pick the better fics from here for posting on FFnet.

In another news, new DJ Max Technika 3 machine has turned up in the local arcade!  I have only been able to climb to fourth place on the local Pop Mixing boards, this makes me sad.  I seem to have a hit some sort of difficulty barricade with the upper 6's and 7's - just cannot clear any of these songs!  Pretty much once the purple notes start turning up on anything higher than 5, I am totally boned.  It's actually kind of embarrassing.  Perhaps, despite a lifetime of video gaming, I have simply hit the ceiling on my dexterity!  Level grinding is providing diminishing returns.

Finally did manage to clear Signalize with a respectable score though!  (Not as respectable as the video, though.)

Hi! I'm a random stalker!anon who is too lazy to log in atm

I really like AO3's tagging system too, I just mourn over its smaller archive :C
It's kinda weird on how it doesn't let me jump to specific chapters though (or maybe it doesn't, but I don't know how to do it) because I know I like to go back to a fic to just read a specific chapter. I guess there's URL tinkering you could do.

Some of my favorites(or top favorites, because I love reading anything you write) of yours was Stalking the Angel (although that's a co-fic, but it was what got me started on reading everything) and The World Begins With Tennis (there's not enough good TeniPuri and TWEWY fic out there)

Hi random stalker!

The archive will grow in time, it's already a decent enough contender that it should continue leeching users, and once it has momentum... Although I hadn't realised that about the chapter thing, should I ever figure it out I will let you know.

Thanks! Stalking the Angel probably won't go up due to the co-authoring but I'll definitely include at The World Begins With Tennis!

I did see that! I agree, it's a pretty cool feature, saves double-posting. But it's more an issue that I'd have to talk to kaorismash about it first, and she's kinda awol these days and I'm not even sure if she has an account there.

For the skipping chapters, you click view by chapter (because it loads all chapters by default), then chapter index - that will give you a pop up where you can select the chapter you want or select the now appearing button option for the full page index which will give you a page of links.

I'm so glad you're on AO3! I wasn't looking forward to saving your fic and downloading them onto my phone (for private perusal). <= *lazy*
Mar. 6th, 2012 02:16 am (UTC)
Er, from your LJ, I mean.
Mar. 6th, 2012 10:16 am (UTC)
Thanks! I will endeavour to populate it over the next couple of weeks. Haha, you couldn't peruse from your phone via ffnet or LJ?
Mar. 6th, 2012 10:50 am (UTC)
My phone plan has like a 1 gig limit =( (Which I've gone over several times ... *sheepish*) So it's just cheaper if I have it saved on my phone when I'm on public transport XDD

The awesome thing about reading fic on public transport is, I imagine, that everyone probably assumes you're reading novels or classics. Meanwhile, cracktastic fanfic.

I read almost exclusively from Archive of Our Own nowadays! (I think I have a account there too, but I don't use it at all. Like you said, too many to take care of!)

I am also super surprised that there are rhythm games in this world that surpass even your mad skills! D:

*is surprised to see you on LJ!* *___*

\o/ Hahaha, on top of your tumblr and facebook and ffnet and lj... did I miss any? XD

I WILL OVERCOME. Just need to train more! :|

I don't use FF.net at all anymore! Old account still exists but I only use to once in a blue moon to read old favourites saved? And I have a listography (it's super useful since I love making lists and links and ;;)

Mar. 6th, 2012 12:11 pm (UTC)
Ahaha I got an AO3 account just when I was on that "I HAVE ALL THE MULTI-CHAPTER STORY IDEAS" binge and then I didn't write them, so all mine has is that The Fifth Act story I wrote... because I'm also rather lazy about porting over my stories.

I do like AO3's tagging system, but I like the icons in the top left of stories more, since they give more details than the simple "M" rating that FFnet offers.

I'm only familiar with DDR, so the DJ Max looks nothing short of witchcraft to me.

Porting's a pain, isn't it? Everything works so hard to destroy your formatting.

Nooooo, all those multi-chapter stories ideas... ;__;

It's a touch-screen palooza. I kind of want it to hurry up and come out on iPad, because I think in the long run it would be cheaper for me to buy an iPad than to continue feeding the hungry hungry arcade machines. :|

I like kudos, the tags and the backdating, cowriting and inspired by features. XD

I miss the Fanfiction.net importing feature though, it made life a lot easier for bringing in a bunch of fic. (LJ imports still work but I don't like it as much as I did ff.net feature when it worked. [fanfiction.net no longer responds to pings, which is the usual way servers say, "hey do you exist?"])

(BTW, I saw you mention you weren't sure if some of your cowriters had accounts - usually Ao3 responds reasonably quickly to invite requests for existing users especially if you have a reason, and I do have some invites floating around, for uh, reasons, if anyone wants. XD

Caught in a ladder, Probability of Dating and ALL THE NATSUME FIC, in additions to the ones you mentioned would be the ones I would cherry pick, but I honestly think all your writing is very good. <3
Mar. 7th, 2012 10:12 am (UTC)
Cheers for the tip on the invites, I'll keep that in mind when I next catch up with kaorismash.

Haha, the two Natsume fics definitely! I am surprised by your other two choices though, I still think they were interesting ideas but they were super-lacking in execution. I'll definitely add them to the list though, thanks!
Mar. 7th, 2012 10:25 am (UTC)
I thought that they were really unique and I got a lot of enjoyment when I read them as you were posting them on ff.net long ago. :)
Mar. 10th, 2012 02:09 am (UTC)
Hmm, I'd have to say that I loved Fallacious Diety, but that may just be due to the fact that it was one of my favorite Dissidia fanfic. Awesome work Sinnatious.
Mar. 10th, 2012 02:52 am (UTC)
Thanks, I'll add it to the list then.

Old post is old.... but, uh, if Little House in the Woods invited you to ao3, does that mean they're on there now? Because I can't find them anywhere.....?

She was, but she has since seemed to drop off the face of the internet. Possibly she deleted her account. We used to chat (she did a great job beta-ing Beloved for me) but I haven't seen her online for ages, sorry.

Ah, I see. I was looking to read a story of hers, but I can't find it anywhere.... thanks, anyway.
