Persona Fic

Lately I've been playing Persona 3 obsessively.  The game is constantly steering you towards het, of course, but that is not how a fangirl's mind works.  Silly Atlus.

Title: What Shadows Know

Akihiko/Minato(mainchar).  If things went a bit differently in Shirakawa Hotel on the night of the full moon...

Rating: M for yaoi.

Words: 1,462

Author's Note:  Spoilers up to the third full moon.  Not really much in the way of plot.  Ah, this was rather cathartic.  Although when I wrote this, I wasn't aware of the name Minato.  Any Persona fans in the f-list who can explain where that name came from?  Did fandom just make it up?

Embrace your desire...

The voice is sweet, wafting in and out of his comprehension like a cloud of perfume.
I am the voice of your inner self... enjoy the moment... That which cannot be felt is merely a dream... The present is all we have.
Slick, sweaty hands.  Sliding cloth.  The cool touch of satin.
The future is but a fantasy, memory a fabrication... Let your desire free you from your shackles... Such is my wish...
Sensation.  He's vaguely aware that he's arcing his back into the soft sense of touch, but the movement seems slow and dreamlike, as though he's merely watching from a distance. Yes… desire…
Pleasure is what you truly want.  You stand before the doorway to bliss.  You cannot deny your instincts...
...No. This is wrong. Where…?
It’s so difficult to think through the haze of pleasure and sensation. Does he even want to? But there’s something important… something he’s forgetting…
Embrace your desire...
Then his head starts to clear, the tantalising voice with its sweet words recedes, and he realises than he's almost naked and Akihiko-senpai's tongue is halfway down his throat.

He's confused.  How did they even get there?  He remembers looking into the mirror after defeating the first shadow, then his head started to feel foggy...

It must be the work of the Shadow.  It's been attacking couples - this is probably its trick.
Akihiko doesn't seem to be stopping.  He tugs on his arms, but they don't come away from the headboard.  Handcuffs.  They probably came with the room.
There’s a hand on his stomach, sliding underneath the elastic of his boxers.
There isn't time for this. “Nnnhhhmm.” It’s hard to form any sort of coherent warning when his mouth is being so effectively smothered. Regardless, it seems to reach through to the silver-haired senior.
He pulls away, his eyes seem to clear, and he blinks rapidly.  "What...?"  After a moment, he registers their positions, and where exactly his hand is.  "Gah!"  He yanks it away and scrambles off the bed.
Fuuka's disembodied voice chooses that moment to buzz in their ears.  "Hello?!  Hello?!"

"Fuuka?" Akihiko is clutching his head where he banged it against the bedside table in his mad tumble for propriety.

"You’re finally answering!  I couldn't get through!  You've been separated from the others.  Are you two alright?"

"Ah... that is..." It's surprising to see his normally stoic senpai at loss for words.
“We’re fine,” he replies monotonously. “What’s happening?”
There’s another Shadow! It’s in the same room as before, but it’s sealed the door somehow. I’ll try and analyse it. You should regroup with the others – they’re on the floor above you.
“Another Shadow?” Akihiko swears faintly under his breath. “Got it. We’ll be there soon.” The prospect of another battle is apparently enough for the senior to gather his wits.

"Hey, my hands..." He tilts his head toward his bound arms.

"Right."  Akihiko fumbles a bit, but they're not real handcuffs after all, and click open easily once the mechanism is undone.  He pulls them free and rubs at his wrists for a moment. “We were really…”
“The Lost have been found in pairs lately,” he answers plainly, leaning over the side of the bed and retrieving his crumpled white shirt.  After a moment, he realises that the size isn't quite right and tosses it to Akihiko instead, and finds his underneath a chair.  He slides his arms into the sleeves and deftly buttons it closed. His pants seem to be strewn across the arm of the loveseat across from the bed.
Following his lead, Akihiko just focuses on getting dressed, adjusting his red vest and retrieving his belt and shoes from the other side of the room.
"Man, nothing bothers you, does it?" Akihiko remarks as he tugs on his gloves.  "You're not even embarrassed?"

He sticks his hands in his pockets, finally decent again.  "Why, are you?"

If it had been Yukari, she probably would have blushed bright red and threatened him with bodily harm if he ever dared mention it to anyone.  Akihiko just eyes him warily, and while he seems a little uncomfortable, he shrugs off the question easily enough.  "I guess if you're not, I don't have any reason to be."
It’s a good answer, and exactly what he expects from his senpai.
"But damn, it's going to be hard to finish the mission like this," he mumbles under his breath a moment later.

He's not the only one worried about that, but there's no time for cold showers. Hopefully this Shadow won’t require any fancy footwork. “We don’t have a lot of time.” The Dark Hour is only so long, after all.
At least the mission gives them something else to think about other than being embarrassed. Akihiko peers carefully outside the door. “There’s only one Shadow between here and the staircase, and it looks like a small one.”
He picks up his sword and checks that he still has his Evoker. All set. “Let’s go.”
Even though there are only two of them, they’re the heavy weights on this mission and make quick work of the Shadow. Upstairs, Yukari and Mitsuru are waiting for them, no doubt informed by Fuuka. It isn’t nearly as bad as that time he had to run through the halls of Tartarus alone. Then again, the hotel isn’t nearly so large. It was obviously hoping its mental assault would slow them down enough. The Shadow might have separated them, but it looks like it screwed up while doing so.

Although Yukari and Mitsuru are blushing pretty badly.

"Did you guys... anything happen?" Yukari asks somewhat accusingly.

Akihiko folds his arms and looks away.  It's up to him to answer, apparently  "What about you guys?"

If possible, Yukari turns an even brighter shade of red and squeaks out.  "N-nothing!  Of course not!  What could happen?"

Mitsuru seems annoyed.  "Let's not waste anymore time!  We have to take care of the Shadow!"

Question successfully averted.  Akihiko throws him a grateful look.
They run through the Hotel, defeating the odd Shadow and breaking mirrors under Fuuka’s careful guidance. Soon enough, they regain entry to the first room to take on another oppressively large and powerful Shadow.
They manage to defeat the second one, but it's a close thing - there's only a few minutes left in the Dark Hour for them to clear out of the hotel and make it back to the dorm.  It probably didn't help that both he and Akihiko stumbled in their attacks a lot more than usual.  The Shadow's distraction was costly - it's lucky that Fuuka figured out the trick to breaking the seal so quickly, or they really would have run out of time.
“Well done everyone,” Mitsuru announces imperiously – even though he’s supposed to be the leader, it really only seems to hold true in the field. As though sensing his thoughts, she adds, “You did very well too. Especially in withstanding the Shadow’s mental assault.”
Guilt spikes through him briefly, and Akihiko takes this as his cue to walk ahead. It probably wouldn’t do to let Mitsuru know just how far they got before the thought of resistance even entered their minds. He just nods quietly in thanks at the praise, sticks his hands in his pockets, and ambles with the others back to the dorm.

Junpei seems annoyed about something and storms into his room as soon they arrive home.  The rest of them are tired and drag their feet - it seems inconceivable that they have to get up for school the next day.
The girls continue up to the next floor.  He pauses in the hallway though, and turns to his upperclassman.  It seems like he wants to say something.

Akihiko is fiddling with his boxing gloves. "Hey, you know... sorry about earlier."

"It wasn't your fault."

Akihiko runs a hand through his hair.  "I shouldn't have been so easily influenced by the Shadow."

He considers several responses, before settling on, "I was influenced too."

His senpai gives him a grim smile at that.  "I guess.  Doubt I could have got you into a pair of handcuffs if you weren't willing."  An instant later he's looking faintly embarrassed at the recollection.  The air is suddenly awkward again.
“It’s late,” he eventually says, when it looks like Akihiko isn’t going to say anything else himself.
“Yeah… I’m exhausted. Heh, maybe we can convince the chairman to give SEES the next day off after every big mission," Akihiko remarks with a smirk - while not as flippant as Junpei, it's rather obvious that he considers school secondary to a lot of other things.  He yawns, and pats him on the shoulder.
The awkward air seems to have dissipated.
Still, as Akihiko gives him a lazy wave and retreats to his room, he feels strangely warm.

Maybe the Shadow didn't screw up after all.

(I think they were, if anyone bothered to notice xD) and you of all people chose that helga-type pink YUKARI!!! There's a completely hot red-vest wearing silver-haired caring seme right next door D:) seriously she said that >.> I think I got a bit carried away still even if I think this is a one-shot it would be cool to see it grow more xD

P.S Not bashing helga ( I love her in arnold xD) but seriously yukari acts like her in a whinier way

Oh gosh yes. If he HAS to wind up with a girl, why couldn't it at least have been Mitsuru? I like most of the characters, but Yukari... Exactly as you say. XD

Also - why no social link for Akihiko-senpai? ;___;

So sad I know :( it's even sadder the only ones you do have social links with in the dorm are all women >.> what about shinji D: akihiko might get jealous though (though I'm not sure with who xD)

Main chara is named Minato, cause of the manga series of P3. Mangaka decided upon that name, therefore people decided to use that name :D

Your fic was very good <333 But too bad there was so little yaoi xDD
Dec. 5th, 2008 01:21 pm (UTC)
Ah thanks, clears that up. ^__^

There is never enough yaoi. ;)
Dec. 8th, 2008 02:37 am (UTC)
You. I got so excited when I saw Minato. And then I realized I had no idea who Akihiko was. And then I realized that you wouldn't write YonKaka fic unless I prodded you with a very very sharp stick and threatened pillardestruction on you (or would you? :-?). Except I wouldn't do that because pillardestruction-! D:
Dec. 8th, 2008 02:38 am (UTC)
And that was me forgetting to log on. Oops. Still forgetting to log on right now, but I think you know who I am. ;P
Dec. 8th, 2008 09:51 am (UTC)
Heh heh, naturally. ;) I don't know anyone else who would both be looking for YonKaka and threaten pillar destruction in the SAME SENTENCE. :P Sorry to disappoint you. ^__^ You could just mentally substitute 'Kakashi' for Akihiko and pretend it's AU? They both have silver hair. :P

Next time, I'll make it paragraphs. :| Small steps. I'll be ninja one day.

Damn it where's Word's find and replace function when you need it. :|

That was made of awesome. XD I'm new to the P3 fandom, and I've found an easy addiction for Minato/Akihiko. Yum... I annoy the hell out of my little brother while I play the game because I'm constantly running in circles around Aki, cooing at him, and propositioning him. ;)

This oneshot came out how I wished my own had. I have a 20 page (so far) oneshot written for AkiMina, but I'm in a rut because I hate how I portrayed the main. *sigh*

But that is irrelevant! Again, I loved this. Any chance for a continuation??
Feb. 14th, 2009 03:06 pm (UTC)
Heh heh, your poor brother. But I admit, I did that too.

Nooo, post yours! 20 pages, that's epic! *__* The pairing needs more love! You can obsess of your characterisation of the main, but technically, his character is something of a blank slate, right? Heh, you would think it makes it easier, but it doesn't.

Not much chance of a continuation, though, sorry. :( I always intend to do sequels and follow ups, but they never seem to happen.

Your fic actually inspired me to go back and modify the main a bit, and I'm slightly happier with how he is at the moment. No longer in a rut, but I have to continue in my (4th) playthrough of the game so I can take notes of areas I need to explore. I'm working off a premise of what New Game+ could really mean for Minato, and I'm currently only up to October in my retelling.

But I'm getting there!

Minato becomes all the more dangerous for characterization, though, because of his blankness. It means no one will agree with any kind of personality given to him, since everyone sees him just a smidgen differently. Mine internally monologues too much. :P Yours, though, was perfect in my book. I wish I could manage something that really felt like a piece of gameplay... *sigh*

29 pages and counting on my oneshot, though! Whee!
Feb. 15th, 2009 11:55 am (UTC)
4th playthrough! Colour me impressed! :O

True, everyone sees him just a smidgen differently, but since there's no real set canon for him, I think people are more open to his characterisation, so long as you can defend your choices. Heh, and I think mine only held up because it was such a short piece - would have become shaky if it was an epic 29 pages! (9 more pages so fast!) Good luck with it, and let me know if/when you post it! *__*
Feb. 28th, 2009 01:28 am (UTC)
Yeah, the first was my brother's, the second my own, the third an attempt to get Orpheus Telos (fucking stupid...) and the last was so I could fill in the blanks in my story. ;) Dedication FTW!

I ended up posting part 1 of 5 of that long ass (s'posed to be a oneshot) fic I wrote over at FFnet. If you're still interested...?

OMG IZAYA AND SHIZUO ICON. *______* Izaya totally reminds me of Naoya, hey. It's the eyes and the sinister smile.
